Lawson Trio

"An extremely musical ensemble....truly excellent players...showing a commitment to chamber music at the highest level." (Martin Lovett, Amadeus Quartet)

Emerging as one of the finest ensembles of its generation, the Lawson Trio enjoys a busy concert schedule, bringing a wide range of traditional and contemporary Piano Trio music to audiences of all ages. Recent British venues have included the South Bank Centre, Kings Place, Bath International Festival, the Lake District Sumer Music Festival, and Queen's University Belfast, while performances abroad have taken them to Australia, Germany, Austria and Finland.

Park Lane Group Young Artists for 2011/12, the Trio has also been selected by Making Music for inclusion in its Concert Promoters' Network Guide, resulting in numerous, prestigious music society bookings for 2011-12. In this same season they will also participate in Music in the Round’s nationwide tour. The Trio is also pleased to be giving recital series in 2011/12, both at the Red Hedgehog in Highgate and as SAMSensemble at St Anne’s Church, Gresham Street. The first piano trio to be invited by Aldeburgh Music to take part in one of their String Quartet Residencies, the Trio spent the last two weeks of January 2011 working intensively with Colin Carr, Hugh Maguire and Simon Rowland Jones at Snape.

The Trio's commitment to encouraging younger musicians and audiences has led to performances for the Florestan Trio's Peasmarsh Festival, regular workshops with performers and composers at Queen's University, Belfast, and an exciting collaboration with the Schubert Ensemble, working as Associate Ensemble on their 'Chamber Music 2000' project, arranging workshops and performances at venues including the Purcell Room. The Trio has recently been invited to join the ensembles working for the Cavatina Trust to promote chamber music.

In addition to their formal studies as Junior Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellows at the Royal Academy of Music, the Lawson Trio has performed in masterclasses with artists including the Endellion, Chilingirian and Fitzwilliam Quartets, and Sigmund Nissel. The group has received extensive coaching from the Florestan Trio at the Britten Pears School, Aldeburgh and also in London, and benefits from regular sessions with Martin Lovett, Susan Tomes, Simon Rowland Jones and David Waterman, as well as public masterclasses with internationally renowned chamber musicians at ChamberStudio, Kings Place

The Trio is active in the field of contemporary music, recently commissioning works from David Knotts and Cheryl Frances Hoad. In the past year, composers including Anthony Powers, Camden Reeves and Gordon Crosse have written works for the ensemble, and a number of these have recently been recorded at Manchester University by the Trio, due for release on the ASC Records Prima Facie Label in April 2012. The Trio's schedule for 2011/12 includes performances at the South Bank Centre and Wigmore Hall in London and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, as well as numerous music society concerts across the UK and workshops in institutions such as Chetham’s School of Music, the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music.

The Lawson Trio is grateful to Philip Carne and the Richard Carne Trust for their generous support.
